Thinking about the next 12 months as part of an autism family I prefer to set realistic targets rather than hugely ambitious ones. If I were to adopt a motto it would be” steady as she goes!” or “take each day as it comes. ” The unpredictable nature of Andy’s autism does not allow firm plans for us as a family. Since it is the time for resolutions and goals to be set let me offer another cliche that we also relate to – ” we’ll hope for the best but prepare for the worst!” – that works quite well! Maya Angelou added ” and be unsurprised by anything in between!”- that’s even better!!
We are hoping to make some major changes to our home this year – to provide adequate bathroom facilities for Andy and also some private space for David, who rarely complains about sharing a room with his brother. This alone will be a massive challenge on many different fronts and along with our daily care duties is definitely enough to be thinking about. I am also getting the opportunity to continue my university studies and would love to move to some autism specific employment.
However my main hope for 2015 is to continue to help all my precious children to continue to progress and develop. It really is a privilege!
Wishing you all a healthy and prosperous 2015 Xx
